League Rules
League Rules & Regulations
The game is played with a cue ball and 15 object balls (1-15). One player must pocket balls of the group numbered 1 through 7 (Solids), while the other player has 9 through 15 (Stripes). The player pocketing either group first, and then legally pocketing the 8-ball, wins the game.
The break is not a called shot. To be legal, the breaker must either pocket a ball or drive at least four numbered balls to the rail.
Fouls on the Break: If a player fouls on the break (e.g., scratches/pockets the cue ball or drives the cue ball off the table):
It is NOT ball in hand.
The incoming player must shoot from behind the line or head string.
The incoming player cannot shoot directly at any ball that is also behind the head string (unless they rebound off a rail past the string first).
After the break, the table is considered "Open".
Combinations: You can use any balls in a combination when the table is open. For example, you can hit a stripe to pocket a solid.
Establishing Groups: The table remains open until a player legally pockets a called ball "cleanly". You cannot claim a group (e.g., Solids) by pocketing a solid via a combination with a stripe; you must hit a solid first and pocket it to claim Solids.
Obvious balls and pockets do not have to be indicated. It is the opponent's right to ask which ball and pocket if they are unsure of the shot. Bank shots and combination shots are not considered obvious and should be called. Details like cushions or kisses do not need to be called.
General Penalty: Except for fouls on the break, all fouls result in Ball in Hand (cue ball anywhere on table).
Cue Ball Placement
When you have Ball in Hand, you may adjust the cue ball position using your hand or your cue stick.
Restriction: You strictly cannot use the tip of the cue to push the ball forward. Doing so is considered a stroke/shot. You must use the side/shaft of the cue.
Accidental Movement
Accidentally touching a ball (cue or object ball) BEFORE the shot is not a foul provided the ball does not move significantly (approx. 1 inch or less). The player may continue to shoot.
Other Specific Fouls
Prohibited Shots: Masse shots and Jump shots are not allowed. Attempting these is a foul.
Hitting the wrong group of balls first (or the 8-ball when not on the 8-ball).
Shooting a ball off the table.
Failure to hit a rail after contact (if no ball is pocketed).
Regular Season: Players are allowed 1 coach per game.
Playoffs: No coaching is allowed.
A player loses the game if they:
Foul when pocketing the 8-ball.
Pocket the 8-ball on the same stroke as the last of their group of balls.
Jump the 8-ball off the table.
Pocket the 8-ball in a pocket other than the one called.
Pocket the 8-ball when it is not the legal object ball.
